Flight Test
At the flight field, once RubiQ has achieved a GPS lock, she is ready for her first flight.
To begin:
- Start with the SA switch in the middle position. This is Angle Mode, a self-leveling, beginner pilot mode.
- Arm the drone by flipping the SD switch.
- Gently apply the throttle by pressing the left stick up.
Now that you’re at the proper altitude, it’s time to test the controls.
- Activate Altitude Hold by pulling the SA switch towards you one click. Altitude Hold only controls altitude. The drone will still move side to side.
- Make sure the drone maintains its distance from the ground in Altitude Hold. Then test that the drone responds to pitch, yaw and roll as expected.
- Pitch the drone forward by gently pressing up on the right stick.
- Then, bring the stick down to pick back towards the starting position.
- Second, roll the drone to the right by pressing the right stick to the right.
- Test the second direction by pressing the right stick to the left.
- Yaw the drone to the right by pressing the left stick to the right. This will spin the drone on its axis.
- Bring it back to the center, then press the left stick to the left to rotate the drone in the other direction.
Now, test the assisted flight modes.
- To set Altitude Hold, pull the SA switch towards you, one click. Altitude Hold only controls altitude. The drone will still move side to side.
- Engage Position Hold by pulling the SB switch towards you, one click. This will make RubiQ hold her position horizontally.
- With both sticks centered and both Altitude and Position Hold engaged, RubiQ will hover in place.
- Wind can affect flight mode. Avoid flying on windy days, otherwise, expect some drift.
- To check if the Return to Home function is working properly, disengage Position Hold, then fly a short distance away.
- Now, pull the SB switch all the way towards you to engage Return to Home. RubiQ will now orient itself for an autonomous flight back to its starting take-off point.
- As it slowly descends, flip the SD switch away from you to disarm the drone once RubiQ is only a few inches off of the ground.
